The Summer Season has officially started, with various training programs underway. Our players are beating the summer heat, aiming to improve their game, tactics and strokes for the upcoming season.

During these three months, TopSpin academy has planned two major summer training activities. The first is the annual foreign Summer Training Camp, to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, under the guidance of coaches Kayque Valois and Tomislav Kolarel, along with the TopSpin coaches Edward Baldacchino and Alex Soler. This training camp is organised with the aim of introducing new techniques for the students, and by having intense, focused training concentrated over five days.

The Croatian coach, Tomislav Kolarel, will be sure to impart professional guidance to the students attending the camp, through his career as a Croatian National Team medallist and Croatian U15 National Team Coach. Kayque Valois, a Brazilian international player and coach who also briefly coached at TopSpin in the recent months, will continue to provide insight to the players through his experience competing in leagues and tournaments across Brazil, China, Japan, and Poland.

Another ongoing training program is the TopSpin Youth Training Program, organised to raise the level of the younger TopSpin players set to compete in the 2026/2027 table tennis League. The group of five students shall attend a series of eight sessions, to work on particular skills and techniques, under the instruction of Coach Bob, the inhouse professional Chinese coach.

Following TopSpin’s success and experience last year, a group of six students shall once again attend the Andro Kids Open tournament in Dusseldorf, Germany. Mireille Bonnet and Michael Caruana will once again compete in this foreign tournament, aiming to achieve higher results than the previous year, where Mireille Bonnet successfully obtained second place in the U13 Consolidation Round. While Zack Borg, Karl Sawyer, Jayden Hearn and Carl Thorne will be competing in this tournament for the first time.

This tournament gives the players the chance to compete in an international event, against other table tennis players of a similar age, and to demonstrate the techniques and tactics obtained throughout the past Season. These students will have focused training in the weeks leading up to the tournament, to prepare them for certain scenarios and train both their strengths and weaknesses. Look out for more news on this!

TopSpin has also organised the first beach fitness session of the Summer, to be held on 24th July, led by fitness coach Matthew Bartolo. This event aims to increase the players’ physical fitness, by introducing new exercises they can then implement into their fitness routines after the session. It is also a team building event, to bring the Academy together, and spend time together away from the gym, enjoying a relaxing swim after an intense fitness session.

Despite the heat, this Summer Season shall be one to remember, with focused training, fitness events and time for team building, as well as workshops aimed to improve the players’ mindsets and strategies. Be sure to join in for the chance to improve your game!
