Time to tick another event off the topspin bucket list! The much anticipated Athens training camp came to an end, but not without packing intense training sessions, coaching from professional Greek players and coaches, and many more memories.
This week-long training camp in the beginning of August helped Topspin athletes refine their skills with personal coaching, improve their fitness and reaction time, whilst experiencing different playing styles. With the aim to make our TopSpin youngsters and athletes to never stop loving the sport.
These sessions normally started with a good warmup and stretch in preparation for the 2.5-hour intense session. These sessions were held twice per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Drills and exercises tailored for professional playing, overseen by Coach Edward Baldacchino took place. Coaches Yannis Kordoutis, Thalia Kordoutis and Alex Soler led in multiball training, giving pointers and advice for technique improvement.
Most of the sessions ended with stretching for proper recovery, as well as core strengthening exercises. Which made the trips back to the hotel very interesting, as everyone felt the need to rest before the next session starts.
On the last day of the training camp, a friendly tournament was held. This gave the opportunity to our TopSpin youngsters and athletes an opportunity to play against both Greek and Maltese talent to learn different game strategies and playing styles, while implementing all that had been learnt during the camp. Having two categories, the athletes could play against those of similar level to bring out the best of their training.

The final day in Athens was dedicated for our TopSpin youngsters and athletes to have fun. The team spent a full day together, where they have visited a waterpark and bowling Alley.
The trip ended up being a success, blending high quality training with friendship and fun. Safe to say that the athletes went back home with a ton of new skills, great advice and unforgettable memories!
Huge thanks to everyone involved in organizing this experience.
