On Saturday, 28th February, our hall will be full of competitive energy and team spirit as the time has come for the 2nd ranking in-house doubles tournament for the 2025/2026 season.
The doubles game brings its own rules and demands special strategies. It takes skill, footwork, but above all good communication for partners to thrive in doubles matches. Our players are training hard at the moment, to devise a plan for the tournament and try out their techniques alongside their partners.
Like in previous tournaments, the pairs shall be divided based on their combined skill level into two categories, however there will be a few changes to the groupings. Players of the Bronze and Silver categories will play in the Challenge Category, while pairs from the Gold and Elite categories will compete in the Premier Category. For the Challenge Category, the three pairs from each group with most points after the group stage would proceed to the main event, while the remaining pairs continue to play in the plate event. For the Premier Category, the top three groups from the two groups continue to face off until the finals.
It will be exciting to see if Luke Fenech and Nicholas Sciberras, winners of the Gold/Elite category in the last tournament, will keep up their performance and challenge the others to reclaim the title. We might get to see a face off between the old partners and winners of last tournament's plate event, Chris Feng and Miguel Baldacchino, as they will be competing with new partners this tournament.
One can expect many intense points and close matches, with the players bringing exciting energy to the courts. For details on the results, be sure to check our upcoming articles, and feel free to come support our players on 28th February.
